Social Marketing Series Part 2: 3 Ways Quality Cornerstone Content Helps Your Blog Thrive

cornerstone contentWe’ve all heard it before, content is KING.

Without it, we reduce the amount of exposure we could bring to our blog, website even our social profiles. The fact of the matter is, quality content is a necessary part of our overall online marketing strategy.

What’s more important than posting content for the sake of quantity, is writing a handful of pieces, truly relevant and informative to your target audience, known as cornerstone content. These articles contain keywords and phrases your ideal audience are searching. It’s also a way for you to link back to these articles from future articles you publish for the purpose of sharing additional information.

Your cornerstone content are the foundational posts that your blog will be built on. It is a clearly defined topic your readers are most interested in and sets the overall tone and focus of your future blog content. These articles are often an elaborate series, of highly informative information. It walks the reader through a very detailed aspect of your topic.

So, before you begin promoting your blog and inviting people to come and, “check out” your place on the web, devote your energy into developing a few cornerstone posts that will knock the socks off your audience and help your blog thrive over time.

Wondering how a simple series of posts will help your blog’s life grow over time?

Here are 3 ways to help you see the benefit:

#1 It’s Timeless
No matter how many months or even years go by, your cornerstone content remains relevant. This type of information is what it is and should very rarely, need updating. Because the content consists of a particular standard on the subject matter, such as; how to use your product, or perform a set of tasks, it retains value to the reader.

# 2 Drives Steady Traffic
Cornerstone content provides a steady traffic flow since your content consists of keywords and phrases your ideal audience is searching for online. My post, 5 Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Blog, was published over a year ago and still brings regular traffic to my blog almost daily.

#3 Gets You Noticed Online
When you produce high quality, well-written, cornerstone content it provides great value for your readers. You become known for being knowledgeable and having a genuine expertise, in your chosen industry. Over time, you many notice other websites and blogs will begin to link to and share your cornerstone content with their audience.

So you see, there is much more to blogging for business than just posting articles to, “keep up with the Joneses”. While you are building your social influence, taking the time to consider what your goals are for blogging, and what you want others to know you for, is essential to creating a solid foundation for your business.

  1. Cathey Stott

My corner stone content revolves around using Biblical tools and principles to move beyond pain and loss. I have focused on grief recovery until now but I am beginning to broaden it by addressing loss from divorce, job loss, empty nest, bad medical report, etc.

  2. This was some very valuable info. I’m a Relationship Coach, and no matter how many times you talk/write about it, people love to read about cheating or interracial relationships. It always seems to find its way back to the top post.
