Why Network Marketing is Not for Everyone

Why Network Marketing is Not For Most People

It blows my mind how much hate the network marketing industry gets, despite how long it’s been around. But just like entrepreneurship, there are a few reasons why network marketing is not for most people.

The main one is most people aren’t willing to learn the industry, or invest time into personal development. Both are very important to your success as a home based business owner.

It’s been my experience that the majority of individuals considering network marketing are simply misinformed, or have been misguided.

They start searching online and stumble upon all the crap and scams selling hope and “pipe dreams”, instead of truth.

The fact of the matter is, roughly 97% of people never make any significant (life changing) income in network marketing. These are the people who get sucked in by hype. These are the ones who let their dream of escaping the rat race, get the best of them.

When It Comes to This Industry, You Must Be Rational

Starting a home based business is easy, which makes it a simple decision for many. The initial start up investment is affordable compared to starting a traditional business, and no formal education is required.

Thing is…you MUST do your due diligence. You’re still INVESTING in a business, and in yourself even moreso.

Before you take that step, I suggest you do some research to determine if starting a work at home career is a good option for you.

If you are not able to look past the “making money” part, and be willing to learn the necessary skills you need to be successful (no matter how long it takes):

  • Marketing
  • Networking
  • Prospecting
  • Selling
  • Commitment
  • Discipline
  • Thick skin
  • Hard WORK

Just to name a few…this may be why network marketing is not a realistic choice for you. If you know you aren’t interested in using this business model as a way to develop your entrepreneurial skills, don’t waste your money.

Network Marketing is Not for Most People Because:

#1 – They don’t have the right mindset. They’d rather listen to people who have either halfheartedly, dabbled in a home based business, failed…and then blame the entire industry for their lack of success. When the reality is, they didn’t do the work required.

#2 – They aren’t business minded. They are money motivated. Don’t think you are going to come in this industry and be able to quit your job in 30 days. If you do, you are either involved in a scheme, or you are living in La La Land. Those who aren’t committed to building, aren’t cut out for this industry. There is no overnight success. Here…you gotta WORK (there is no way around it).

#3 – They are too skeptical. In their mind, because they’ve been burned in the past (due to lack of efficient research)…everything is a scam. Yet they still jump from opportunity to opportunity, and do nothing…just to “prove” it doesn’t work, and they have somehow been right all along.

#4 – They can’t differentiate between investing in starting their own business vs “paying” to work for a company. This is referred to as a capital expense because it’s an initial investment required to start a business. Since you are investing in a business (NOT paying to work), it is tax deductible. While on the topic, I might as well mention that any monthly overhead expenses are also tax deductible.

#5 – They still believe the only people who make money are the people at the “top”. Unlike your job, where the CEO is at the top…a place you will more than likely never be…in network marketing, you are at the top of your own business. Because there is no glass ceiling (again, like at your job), anyone who works for it can be at the top, and there is no limit to how much money you can earn.

#6 – They think the only way to grow a home based business is to do home parties, hotel meetings, presentations, and harassing family and friends. The only way someone could possibly believe this is if they’ve been living in a bubble and have never heard of this little thing called, INTERNET. These are the people who aren’t familiar with internet marketing and don’t understand the power of leverage. There is no better time than now to build a network marketing business online.

#7 – They are afraid to take a leap of faith. Being an entrepreneur means you understand risk, and you are willing to take it from time to time. However, fear and faith cannot operate at the same time. Sadly, it’s easier for folks to stay the same, and remain comfortable instead of trying something new. People who are fearful rarely make it far in this industry because they are consumed with all that could go wrong, instead of what can go right. You need thick skin, along with a strong dose of personal belief.

Honestly, I could go on…but I won’t.

My goal with this post was not to deter anyone from pursuing network marketing. I’ve been in this industry since 2002 and wouldn’t give it up for anything.

It definitely takes a certain type of person to make it in this space. You don’t have to know it all from day one, but have enough courage to get started. Discipline and personal responsibility are characteristics of those who succeed long term.

If you are still debating why network marketing may not be for you…it’s probably not. And, that’s okay! The time may not be right for you.

However, if you are considering joining a business or getting started in the industry, the 7 Core Principles For Home Based Business Success Ebook is a great FREE resource to help you with making a decision.

A piece of advice…never base your decision off of someone else’s experience. At the same time, never judge an entire industry on the bad ethics of some within that industry. You can achieve anything you want in network marketing!
