Entrepreneur: Why You Must Invest In Yourself

Entrepreneur Invest In Yourself

While building an internet based business, a great deal of focus is put into sales and marketing. I do agree, those things are very important.

However, in order to be effective at it, you need to know more than just the steps.

You have to develop the ability to understand…

Why and who you should market to…

How marketing the right way attracts people to you…

How to implement strategies that get them to take an action…

How and why you should leverage a system to maximize your efforts…

All of those “things”, plus more…are all necessary to be successful online. Yet, they are often skipped or skimmed over because they require an investment of time and money.

They require an investment in yourself.

But, many entrepreneurs don’t want to do that.

They don’t understand, or connect the value of investing in themselves, in order to properly learn the skills they absolutely need, to ultimately get the results they desperately want.

And so…

They remain trapped in a cycle of self defeating behaviors and can’t figure out why.

Here is how it works…

If you don’t know what to do…

If you don’t know where to get started…

If you don’t know what you need…

If you don’t know what you don’t know…

You’ve got to invest in yourself to learn whatever it is you need to learn.

Period.

Truthfully, there is no other way around it.

You can’t make money if you don’t know how. If you don’t know how, you have to learn how.

Break out of the idea that, ‘I don’t have money to invest in myself’, because that’s a bunch of crap.

When you decide and commit to change, you’ll stop making excuses and figure it out.

Your income will grow, the more value and experience you serve to your market.

You gain value from learning, and you gain experience from doing that which you’ve learned.

The more you know, the more you grow…

It all goes back to investing in yourself.

Learning the skills you need to reach your desired results, then being able to teach and show others, makes you more profitable.

Building your brand, building your business, building your income happens when you embrace the FACT, that you are worth an investment.

I look at it this way: You can maybe/probably get to where you want to go without investing in support. You can choose to figure it out yourself as you go along. But the journey will be more difficult and slow-moving than if you invested in support. Support from someone (or a team of someones) who know what you don’t can get you there MUCH faster, with less paid and suffering. The choice is yours to make.

    1. That is so true, Rosella. I was someone who went at it alone for a few years when I was getting started. Though I did enjoy the learning process (I’m a bit of a nerd), I invested a LOT of time. Yes, it has benefited me now…however, if I knew then what I know now, I would have invested way sooner to shorten that learning curve!

to add: ignore all the negativity. So many people will try to talk you out of what you want to do and then you land up not learning, not growing and being as miserable as they are

Thanks for this great post, Tamyka. “When you decide and commit to change, you’ll stop making excuses and figure it out.” I totally agree. It makes the journey so much easier when you start investing in yourself – you get so much in return.

    1. Yes, Joy! I think we all get caught up in excuses at some point or another, but once we finally have enough…we make that decision to commit to change. That’s when the shift really takes place.

  4. This is so true. I always hire someone I can learn from. What people also have to realize is that most of the time they will out grow the person or program and they must be willing to move up to the next level.

Realizing that from the time you entered into school until now you have invested in yourself, use the knowledge and the people that you know and network with to grow yourself as well as your business.. that is a something that I try to utilize everyday.. I know stuff but how do I expand on that stuff and who do I know that can help me expand. Going it alone is ok but not good. Thank you for the post!

Great words of wisdom. Investing in yourself as a business owner is key to your success. I find that once someone invests in themselves, they’re more likely to make changes because it’s an investment so there is something at stake.

  7. Janet Williams

Agree Tamyka! Once you have invested in yourself, you commit more time and effort into achieving your goals because you want to be sure to get a return on your investment.

Investing yourself is saying you’re worth the investment. Most women would rather spend money on their families needs instead of their business. I started my blog in the fall of 2008 when the world was going crazy. I was watching CNN and said to myself that is enough negativity and decided I do something to bring something positive to world and myself. I didn’t have a clue about what platform to use. I didn’t know what I didn’t know.

I started researching online everything about blogging. I didn’t have any funds to invest. So I read other people blogs to learn about blogging. I did figure it out. I found an e-course and invested in it and learn about building a blogging business. That was worth every cent.
Search Engines have a wealth of information and it is free! Thanks for the post.

    1. I can totally relate, Nina. I didn’t have money to invest in the beginning, but I did invest in a domain and web hosting to start blogging. What I did do was invest my TIME into learning the things I needed to build my business with blogging. When I started making money, I invested in training courses that would help me learn more, and make more. Thanks for sharing your insight.

  9. Yes, we must invest in our businesses if we want them to grow. One point you touched on was that we must believe we’re worthy of the investment. We can’t just invest in other people’s dreams. We’ve got to work on ours, too. Taking that first step of spending time and/or money signals we’re worth it. I’ve also found that when I invest in myself, more opportunities open up.

  10. Great post Tamyka! I agree ifI would have knowm what I know now I would have invested in myself earlier in the game. Awesome post!

  11. Many entrepreneurs focus on Cost instead of Investment. This causes you to only think about the money that you’re ‘losing’. When you focus on the investment that you’re making in yourself, then you realize that you’ll gain at least 10X the price in sales and marketability.

  12. Thanks for this post – it is a great reminder to both new and experienced entrepreneurs to invest in themselves.

I agree that it is important to invest in yourself. I didn’t really have a problem with this myself when it came to learning new skills. I love to learn new things! Sometimes I need to stop myself and focus on other areas.

  13. “When you decide and commit to change, you’ll stop making excuses and figure it out.” This statement says it all Tamyka! We have to invest in ourselves if we truly want to make a change in our lives. And investing in myself is my way of saying I CAN DO THIS!

  14. I have invested in coaching for different aspects of my business and totally agree that coaching can take your business and brand to the next level, if you find the right one. Thank you!

  15. I love this. I actually did a podcast on something similair. You have to fill yourself up, before you can pour out to others. Self development is essential to growth and creativity. Great post!
