business woman playing chessI don’t normally post to many articles as direct as this one is, but when I get that push in my spirit…I know I need to be obedient. This post is primarily directed to those of you who have a business or just starting a business and don’t want to face the reality of why you are not making any money.

In my opinion and experience, it is simply because you are not ready to be real with yourself. You are not willing to accept the fact that you have to DO something to make it happen.

I understand you love what you do and you are pursuing your passion. That’s all good. But it cannot be called a business if you are not making money…you’ve heard it said before, what you really have is a hobby. Some of you have an expensive one.

Do you want to know what the biggest reason is why you aren’t making money? I’m about to step on some toes here but if it opens the eyes of just one person…I’m okay with that. The reason is because you are not investing in yourself. YES, I mean money. Now, if you just rolled your eyes…that’s okay, I understand because I’ve been where you are and YOU are exactly who I’m speaking too.

You see, if money was really an issue for you, you would have already began to invest in the TIME and energy it takes to LEARN the skills you need to get your business up and running.

If you really want to have a profitable business, you would make financial sacrifices. Put off getting your hair done for a couple of months. Do your own nails once in a while. Stop going out to eat as much. Because where there is a will…there is ALWAYS a way.

I can see the women who are serious and those who are seriously making excuses. I’ve had moms on welfare who invested their very last into working with me to make their business work. It’s not a game for them and it sure wasn’t a game for me.

I tell you how it is because somebody has too. If you are not willing to change your mindset, NOBODY will ever be able to help you. If you are not truly sick and tired of your situation, then you’re just not. **News Flash**…there are NO handouts only hand-ups – which you must be willing to take. NO such thing as overnight riches or instant success, just hard work and commitment.

Those of us who are where we are is because we WORK HARD day in and day out. Everybody who is “where you want to be”, used to be where you are now. You won’t get out what you never put in. If you can’t come up with $20 to pay for your own domain name and web hosting…running a business is really not for you.

I remember I made a $500 investment into a training program I KNEW I needed but also knew, I could NOT afford. Even thought I didn’t have the money, I knew with this training, I’d be able to advance my business. You know how I made it happen? I emailed them and asked if I could set up a payment plan and spread it out over 5 months, and they agreed. Guess what else…that wasn’t even a payment option.

Was I scared about how I would pay it…of course, did I make my payments each month…you bet I did! How? By immediately putting every step I learned from the training, into my business.

There is only SO much you can get for free, which is only designed to just get you thinking in my opinion. If your not applying into your business what you’ve learned from the free stuff, your business will not thrive and you won’t be able to outgrow the “if it’s for free, it’s for me” mentality.

You have a coach or mentor in your life RIGHT NOW that can help you…I’m sure of it. It’s never a matter of money (although we like to make ourselves believe it is), it’s a matter of you taking the steps you need too, in order to do the things that must get done for your business to grow.

Do you have a business you want to start or move forward but you feel is stuck? Then you must make a decision today to stop making excuses, feel the fear and do what you know you need to do anyway. You can create financial freedom if you would just get out of your own way….trust me.

I’d really love to hear your thoughts on this…if you’ve been there and overcame, share in the comments to help someone else. If you are going through this now and could use some advice, leave a comment too…I want to hear from you as well.

Hello Patrice, I understand where you are coming from and glad you were inspired by this post. There are lots of free resources, some better than others and I’d be happy to point you in the right direction. Is a website your biggest priority right now?

Tamyka, Now I have been reading your blog but this post here is exactly what was discussed at my association meeting I joined. People are always on the look out for hand outs. Well if you are in business that is not the way. Besides can you give all your services or products away and live? No. So stop expecting others to do so. Yes, I’m sharing this post. And if people feel you stepped on toes, then being in business is not for them. They need to go get a 9-5. Business takes risks in order to get your reward.

I’m so glad you GET IT!!! I won’t apologize for stepping on toes or hurting feelings because…it’s the truth! I’ve been on BOTH sides of the fence so I’m sharing from experience. As women, we have to take our businesses more seriously and operate like a real business. Free is okay to get started (that’s what I did), but when you begin making money…you’ve GOT to invest it back into your business in order to grow!

      Thanks for your feedback!

Fran, I’m so happy to hear that! Sometimes I feel the nudge to be direct to really help women “get it”. I’ve been on both sides of the fence and had my own “wake-up” call too that changed me forever!

This article truly stepped on my toes but I needed it. I finally made the commitment to work with you and make the financial sacrifice it will take for me to finally be home caring for my husband and my children (expecting #5 in January). Can’t wait to get started!!!
