Tell us about yourself: I live in New Orleans and I’m a full time student, who received her BSN in Nursing in 2012. I decided to return to school after being downsized from a corporate position in sales.

Tell us about your business: I create and produce artisan hair and body products using natural and certified ingredients. I want to provide people of all ethnic backgrounds an alternative to mass produced hair and body products filled with unhealthy chemical additives.

What inspired you to start your business? After my hair started falling out, I cut my hair and returned to its natural state. I could not find products that would give my hair luster, shine and health. I started researching different natural ingredients that I could use to achieve healthy hair. I made a hair butter for myself and would give my friends gifts of the product I created. Shortly thereafter, the women at my church noticed how healthy my hair was and the growth I had achieved and would ask me for the name of the product. They were surprised when I told them I made my own products. I started with $100 and bought my supplies and my business was launched.

What is your favorite quote or saying? The Lord is Blessing Me Right Now!!

What is ONE business goal you are currently working on achieving? Expanding my business into a wholesale distributorship and trying to position my brand into retail stores.

What was a challenge you faced in your business and how did you overcame it? As I grow, realizing that I cannot do it alone and there is no shame in asking for help. I knew that I have a good product but how could I get my products into the hands of not just African American women but all people who wanted a healthy alternative to the massed produced items. I started selling my products at different festivals and large events around New Orleans area and developed a large following. I have large following on Facebook and other social media outlets and they have been really supportive of my business.

What would you say contributes to your success? My faith, a positive attitude and a willingness to help people and tenacity.

What advice would you give an aspiring woman entrepreneur? Never give up, as long as you believe in yourself success will come. Being an entrepreneur is a 24 hour a day job, I’m always thinking how can I improve.

Are there any projects you are currently working on? I am working on adding new products like a curling gelee, new butters and conditioner and scented body oils.
