What Should I Blog About?

what should I blog about? What should I blog about is the question that floods the mind of most newbie business bloggers. You often hear so many different ideas and perspectives on this topic. Truthfully, you can blog about anything you want. However, if you are blogging for business, the smart thing to do is focus on a particular topic that will attract and engage the interests of your target market.

Think about it, if you are blogging to make money, don’t you want your efforts to produce results? Of course you do!

They key to blogging for business is to focus on attracting people to your blog who are actually interested in what you are offering and want to buy. Many ‘experts’ will tell you that you need lots and lots of traffic to make money with your blog but what good is a ton of traffic from people who could care less about what you are sharing?

Quality trumps quantity any day.

So, when you ask yourself…what should I blog about…you want to first think about WHO it is you want to sell your products and services too.

  • What are their interests?
  • What can you share with them that will help them in some way?
  • What can you share with them that will inspire them in some way?
  • What can you share with them that will teach them in some way?

The topics you choose should be relevant to your target market. For instance, here at the Marketing Her Way blog, you will find that I talk a lot about online marketing and blogging. Why? Because that is my market, those are the topics I consult on with clients and are related to the products and services I offer.

When I market my blog posts on social media…the people who click my links are the people interested in what I’m sharing. I get new and return traffic which means more leads for my business!

When you are thinking about, what should I blog about, you should also think about how often you will blog as well. There is no right or wrong answer, but of course, the more often you blog, the more you can produce quality traffic. It’s more important to be consistent with posting high-value content that will really benefit your readers.

The easiest way to build your business online with blogging is to always stay focused on serving your target market. Then of course, to setup your marketing systems on auto-pilot so you can save time and work smarter!

    1. Hi Simone, makes you wonder why people don’t respond when we think they should! Trust, we’ve all been there 🙂 Just keep asking questions and sharing, eventually they will feel comfortable enough to engage! Give it time.

    Hi Tamy,
This is the first time I will be visiting your blog and all I can say is that you are doing a great Job here. 😀
You are right about Quality being the most important thing, I tell this to bloggers a lot, get a topic you can create quality content on and blog about it.
    It is that simple.

    1. Thanks Joseph! Quality content is so important, especially if we want to keep visitors coming back! We’ve got to give them a reason to want too. Thanks for stopping by and visiting, appreciated my friend!

  2. Tamyka, you know this is something I struggle with and had to sit down for a while a create a month’s worth of topics that I knew people wanted to read and could benefit from. It’s coming around slowly but surely. 🙂

Hi Tamyka – I look at my blogging topics like a filing cabinet. 5 drawers with a main topic and the file folders are the subjects within the main topic I want to blog about. I usually have no problem coming up with stuff. What is more challenging is getting people to comment on the blog! Being a social media coach, I know it is easier to just “like” and move on. Real bloggers take the time to leave a note! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    1. That’s a great idea, Laurie! Sounds like you have a system that works for you. It can be a challenge to get people to comment. Even so, I try to ask a question at the end of my posts to encourage a dialogue. Sometimes it works, sometimes not! I appreciate you sharing.

  4. Tamyka – I was thrilled to see a link to this article in my inbox this morning! One of my business goals for 2014 is to blog consistently. Once I develop a good system for creating posts, I can help busy women eat better by teaching them how to fix healthy food fast!

Hi Tamyka – This is one of the fears that I hear from new bloggers all the time. What if I don’t have anything to write about?

In addition to what you’ve stated above, I keep a notebook of ideas. Some of my best blog posts have come from a question asked by a friend.
