It blows my mind how much hate the network marketing industry gets, despite how long it’s been around. But just like entrepreneurship, there are a few reasons why network marketing is not for most people.
The main one is most people aren’t willing to learn the industry, or invest time into personal development. Both are very important to your success as a home based business owner.
It’s been my experience that the majority of individuals considering network marketing are simply misinformed, or have been misguided.
They start searching online and stumble upon all the crap and scams selling hope and “pipe dreams”, instead of truth.

There really is a different mindset between a network marketer, and an entrepreneur business owner. The difference can impact the bottom line of one.
As a business mentor, I work primarily with network marketers. They have a different approach to doing business which can sometimes affect them, in a negative way.
It’s not really their fault. Believe me, I get it. I’ve been in the home business space since 2002.
Most in our space are simply doing what they’ve been taught to do. No matter how much they struggle to get any significant results, they still hold on to those teachings, without question.
But, at what point should you stop and say, “this isn’t working…I need to be doing something different.”

The vibe was just different.
In fact, what they offer is everything I was looking for when it comes to the resources, education, tools and training to grow any business online. So, I joined!
I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not good at keeping up with what’s going on in the media, nor do I regularly follow trends, since I don’t watch much T.V. or the news.

All weekend, my time line has been flooded with people talking about, Patti LaBelle pie.
Posts like, “have you tasted it?”, “where can I buy it?”, “how much is it?” and so on and so forth.
After finally giving into my curiosity, I decided to do a little investigating to see what was the big deal.
What I found was that all this buzz stemmed from a Patti LaBelle fan who posted a very entertaining video review of himself trying the pie.
Have you ever sponsored a brand new person in your network marketing business and you just knew they would do well?
Then, maybe a month or two later…they quit.
It’s probably happened more times than you’d care to think about. If it hasn’t yet, don’t worry. It will.

Let me paint the picture…
One day, you stumbled upon a product or service that caught your attention.
You start doing some research on it, and become really interested in trying it out.
If you didn’t first hear about it from a family member or friend, at this point you realize the only way to get your hands on this particular product, is from an Independent Rep or Distributor (that’s code for Network Marketer…yikes!)
Now, you’re in your feelings. You know for a fact, you are not a sales person, so you make a personal vow that no matter what, you will NOT be convinced to sell anything…
If you’ve been in business any length of time, you know in order to grow, you have got to develop the skill of prospecting. There is just no way around it. Business is all about servicing the needs of people. Without people, there is no business.
So, what can you do when you are afraid, shy or even a little embarrassed about exposing people to your product or opportunity?
You just do it!

Now, that’s probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but it’s the simple truth. Like it or not, if you want the life freedom lifestyle that probably motivated you to start your business in the first place, you’ve got to learn how to overcome the fear of prospecting.
