Go Ahead, Toot Your Own Horn

Toot Your Own HornAre you one of those women who feels a little uneasy about tooting her own horn? Maybe it is because you don’t want to come off as bragging, or maybe because you don’t feel you are “there” yet in your business – You know, that place we want to be at that makes us feel more equal to our peers or mentors.  Or, perhaps you don’t think you have anything to toot about just yet…any of those ring true for you?

They did for me.

Looking back now, I wonder what the heck was I waiting for. You know why? Because I realized it is okay to toot your own horn in celebration of your accomplishments.

Many of us don’t want to “seem” a certain way, as if we are trying to be bigger than we are. No matter how big or SMALL your accomplishment is, you need to share it with others who will support you!

Think about the last goal you set for yourself in your business. Now, think about how you felt when you achieved it. Felt good right? Of course it did, because you worked hard at it and you got it done. Celebrate it!

You know, as many of us are building businesses online, we need to recognize the amount of weight our social influence has over the way we attract clients and customers.

Honestly speaking, those who are profiting the most online are those who aren’t closed mouthed about what they do and how they are doing it. You have got to learn to get out of your own way and stand in confidence knowing that you’ve got big things (big plans, big goals, big dreams, etc.) going on and it is your duty to share!

Seriously though, wouldn’t you agree you are more apt to follow someone who openly shares more about what’s going on in her business, her new latest whatever and how she’s doing it rather than someone who just talks about their business all the time?

Aren’t you interested in hearing what others have to say and see how they are making a difference in the lives of their clients and customers?

I know I do! Because that is what motivates and inspire us to be better….great even!

So, understand there is a difference between tooting your own horn and just being outright boastful.

I’m telling you today, give yourself permission to Toot Your Own Horn! Acknowledge your successes no matter how big or small. Share them with your support network – we want to celebrate with you and let people know what your raving fans and satisfied customers are saying about you, your brand, products and services!

Step into your greatness, (as my friend LaTersa Blakely would tell you) and believe in yourself!

What is something you have recently accomplished that you are proud of? Toot Your Horn in the comments, I want to celebrate with YOU!

  1. Great words, Tamyka! It’s so important to revel in our accomplishments! My latest accomplishment is finishing a huge advertising campaign, from solo ads to banner ads to media releases. I am seeing a sharp jump in website visitors and email subscribers as a result.

Oh goodness, have you been inside my head? I am a member of this club. I guess confession is the first step to recovery!

Seriously, you are absolutely right about this – if we don’t laud our accomplishments, we can’t expect others to do so.

“My name is Regina. And I WILL toot my own horn!”

Oh yes – my “toot” (or accomplishment) is getting ready to launch The Work from Home Classroom course, to empower individuals to start their own home-based businesses or find work from home employment.

Yes! I am grateful for the strategic business networking I’ve been able to do with all of you and others. I’m looking to uplevel this with even more strategic partnerships this year through two new programs: GGene-Sis (targeted biz mentorship program just for sex abuse survivors) and with FaithLikeRuth (free monthly social networking q&a webinar) — That means that I want to tag each of you empowered ladies in to serve the ladies who are seeking help through these programs. If you’re interested, let me know or go check out my main business website.

You just don’t know how much you blessed me with this blog post, Tamyka. I’m looking forward to tagging you in on these programs. More info is coming soon, esp regarding the social networking webinar.

  5.  I’ll tell you what I love about this Tamyka… It’s just far too easy today to play the old “compare” game and start feeling so sorry for yourself because you are not yet “Ms Famous so-in-so” — We all need to do exactly as YOU say and celebrate our current accomplishments! If we are always growing and striving to improve, THAT is something to celebrate. It’s good to look back on the road we’ve traveled and see how far we’ve come rather than compare our road to someone else. Thanks for encouraging me today friend!

    1.  Thanks Kari, I’m glad you were encouraged by this post. You are absolutely right, it is way to easy for us to fall into the comparison trap and even playing small (been there, done that). But, when we celebrate even our smallest accomplishments…we motivate ourselves to push even further next time!

  6. Love it! I used to have an issue with tooting my own horn, but I realized if I don’t let people know what I have going on, they probably won’t know. I’m happy to report that I’m in the final stages of publishing my book : )
