Any small business owner who is serious about blogging for business and building a brand platform know that selecting WordPress (self-hosted), is a wise decision. Especially if you are planning on monetizing your blog and want to increase your exposure through search engines.
Along with using WordPress to blog for business, there are a gazillion perks – in the form of plugins, to enhance your blog experience and provide solutions to make your blog DO everything you want it too.
What are Plugins? Basically, they are tools designed to expand the functionality of WordPress and what you can do with it. In this post, I’m going to share with you 4 plugins I use to help me better expand my brand beyond posts and build my business online.
1. WordPress Editorial Calendar – Is just what the name suggests. It makes it possible to see all your posts and drag and drop them to manage your blog. Before you can even think about making money with blogging, you’ve got to plan and create your content and strategy. This is the plugin for doing so.
It makes it super easy to jot down an idea and a few quick notes for a post, mange guest blogger content and set up articles as a part of a marketing campaign.
2. Impact-Template-Editor – This is a new find for me and one I’m playing with now on a project I’m working on, and must say…I love it! This plugin is a NON-Techie’s dream, especially if creating a landing page is one of your least favorite things to do…even though you know you need one…or a dozen.
What’s really nice is that it is fully customizable, easy to create and will not alter your current theme, Although you can only make one template with the free version, you can still use it for multiple pages or even posts.
3. Newsletter Sign-Up – If you are not building a mailing list for your business, you need to be. It is, in my opinion, the best way to build lasting relationships with your audience. This sweet little plugin adds various ways for your visitors to subscribe to your third-party newsletter (MailChimp, Aweber, iContact, etc.)
It let’s you add a newsletter widget, if your a bit more advanced, you can add shortcodes and my favorite, you can have a “sign me up” checkbox for your comment form. Much less intrusive than an annoying pop up.
4. Comment Redirect by Yoast – This is my favorite because it redirect commenters who just left their first comment, to a page of your choice. This plugin gives you the opportunity to further engage your new commenter and welcome them to your blog community.
I created a special Thanks For Your Comment page that people are redirected to and are able to find out a little bit more information about me, my blog and how they can stay connected. How cool is that?!?
Of course there are a LOT more plugins out there but I just wanted to share a few of the ones that can impact your business, and work for you on a day to day basis. If you are not using WordPress for your business blog or have been kinda sorta on the fence, it’s time to jump on board!
